The Sun & Moon
"Sitting in The Sun" Sketch
|
The sun's golden rays cast shimmers upon the hillside, in the first light of morning. The birds awaken to its call and flurry in the trees. As the day ascends billowing clouds disperse and the warming breeze fills the air and stirs the activity of man and beast.
We may turn our faces to absorb the blessing of light and vitality from the Sun God, whose strength varies throughout the year but on this day his strong presence is felt. His music of sun-swept trees and blossoming flowers can be felt in the heart—that welcomes his awakening and emersion from the winter's mists. The heart of truth, like the cosmic sun, is always shining and is untouched by the changing seasons of life, its events, its highs, and its lows.... |
The music of the Sun God serenades us, awakens us, by day, on so many levels of our being and existence, as we accept his spiritual invitation to drink from his cup and fill our Selves with this light and power.
Even as the day wanes and his song declines in the myriad of pink and purple tinctures of the sky, that mark his leave, we are not disappointed nor left alone. His absence is filled by the Moon Goddess and her sister stars who illuminate our evening and take us on the unknown journeys of the velvet night. The Moon Goddess opens the door to the mystical realms of our evening reflections, meditations, and sleep. Such mysticism flows with the softer energy of the night, that has a natural accord with the divine feminine and subconscious world.
We are held in perfect balance between the sun and the moon, these two Sources of light, of essence, of spiritual power, and illumination. We dance and play between them in our lives and in our consciousness. The key is to feel our alignment to them and find our balance within them in each day and moment.
Even the Sun God rests during the day, and the Goddess soars in the night-sky as she makes her presence known to us through mystical pathways and starry tapestries of light. We are each a part of the solar and lunar presence and light, and like the sun and the moon we are not limited by time or season. However, we are invited to listen to the delicate fabric that is woven through their presence in the natural world, where our soul may dance within the quiet call of every season, each time of day, and every turn of the wheel of our life.
If we are quiet, when we are quiet, we can hear that call: those whisperings in the heart, in our soul, in the breeze, from the mountain, and the earth that tells us we are not alone as we each dance in the greater expanse of divine light and presence. We may see the leaves in our life fall, just as we also see new shoots emerge. We may taste the sweet nectar of a summer's day, and look in wonder at the star-jeweled, clear, winter's night. We may move to the subtleties of our changing lives and yet also stand at the center of the cosmic Father Sun and feel how we are sustained by his light, just as we are sustained by the fluid motion of the cosmic Mother Moon who watches over us—whether she is veiled by her light or hidden behind the brightness of the stars that glow around her, when her complete wane allows her rest.
We can feel their breath in the air that touches us, fills us, and gives to us our life. We do not stand apart from them, we stand within them as they also stand within us. Their vibrancy and guidance can be a part of our earth-walk and our daily lives—even those aspects that are seemingly separate from the natural world. They infuse life into all things; they infuse life into us and, I believe, have a consciousness that is so expansive that it can assist with even with the constructs of this world's creations.
Even as our lives moves around us in tides of activity and rest, we can choose to simply sit and turn to face the sun to take in its vibrance and light. In the winter month its rays may feel cooler, softer, with perhaps a touch of frost, but its strength can nevertheless be felt and enjoyed. The headiness of the star-filled heavens can be absorbed as we walk in the warmth of summer evenings and imagine ourselves soaring amidst our starry brothers and sisters, dancing on their stepping stones of light.
No matter what has been created in the world and life that exists apart from the natural world, and how much of a distraction from our natural rhythm that human-made world can be, we can always return to the softness of the night and drink from the Moon Goddess' silver light. We can take the time to skip and play before the sun, and play "hooky" from the drone of responsibility and what our mind tells us "should" be done that day.
We can live in the freedom of the leaf that spins in the air, and be lifted in our heart by the wings of the white heron as it takes flight, soaring above the world in the realm of sky blue.
We can choose to taste the water in the flowing mountain stream, or at least delight in the sound of its trickling motion in a river or fountain in our neighborhood. They are all of the same source, the one fluid source of the Moon Goddess' elixir that she bestows upon us, that is the spiritual chalice of love that she offers to our lips each night.
The natural world, the seasons, the sun, and the moon exist around us and within us. Our alignment to them may feel deflected at times—through the life we lead—but the spiritual presence behind them all is always felt, always there for us, and like the Sun its brightness, its bounty, its beauty, and spiritual succor can always be received.
Sun Meditation
You might imagine yourself sat on a grassy verge awaiting the sun's rise.
Slowly the light emerges and tinges of that light crest the hillside before us, and oranges and pinks dress the horizon. You feel the sun's increasing presence, and its warmth touches your face and brings with it a refreshing breeze. You feel your heart open to receive its light and emerging blessing of light. As the sun rises and its full presence is seen you allow its bright golden rays to clear any clouds of rhetoric from your mind and feelings. You are born of this light. You are included in its blessings given to this earth, that awakens the flowers, brings strength and growth to the trees, and provides all things with life and the promise of a new tomorrow.
You might imagine placing your bare feet on the grass, on the earth, and feel its support beneath you that steadies you on your earth-walk. You are now connected to the light above you and the earth below you, and here you exist, held in balance between them. You are a conduit through which the two worlds can flow and you may harness their energy for yourself and, perhaps, for others—those you may feel guided to help on your path, in whichever way your heart guides you.
This day and moment is, however, for you, and you again turn to face the sun. There is nothing else that needs your attention, no future mountain you have to climb and nothing in the outer-world that truly needs your attention right now. In this moment all that's important is for you to drink from this well of light and receive its strength and blessing.
You become aware of the mountain, in the distance, and the tree that stands by your side. You feel your connection to them and know that you are the mountain and the tree; you are the flower emerging, the delicate bud set before your feet that is appearing through the lush green grasses. You are the seed, just as you are the flower within you that is already in full bloom.
The sun becomes quite hot now, as the day progresses, and so you shift your position and find shade beneath the tree. The sunlight is still seen and glistens as tiny stars of light peeking through the leaves, in speckles that dance around you and touch your nose.
In your heart, you invite the presence of Father Sun. You feel the Sun God; you feel his support, his strength, and his wisdom. As you receive him you may have a conversation with him. He is friendly enough; his love is near, is always here within you. Let him comfort you. Feel his protection of you and ask for his wisdom and guidance.....
You may feel his guidance in your heart or simply imagine what he might have to say. Trust in what your receive, even if it seems like make-believe, for he is a part of you and whispers through your heart, soul, and mind....
When you feel you have received what is needed, for now, you can thank him for his presence and his truth—even if it was simply an experience of receiving his love and light. You will leave this place, in a few moments, bring your consciousness back to the physical world, while knowing this experience is always offered to you: to turn within and receive his light, or perhaps just take the time, in your day, to turn your face towards the sun and allow yourself to receive.
Moon Meditation
The stars glisten in the evening sky, and like stepping stones they lead us into other realms and the cosmos. We can visit them, dance between their ambience and light, as we are not limited by physical confines. In our consciousness we can soar in the heavens and there meet with our brother and sister stars and feel their embrace. So let us journey together to the stars and galaxies, and perhaps on our travels we will meet with Mother Moon and see what she might have to say.
In your mind's eye you feel yourself lifted into the cosmos. You feel the coolness of the night, but your wings of light give you motion and movement that keeps you warm. You see the stars offering you a pathway before you and you can clearly see each steppingstone of star light. You may feel a little giddy, joyous, and exuberant as you take this journey, because it is so different from your earth-walk. However, you feel a sense of knowing this place and indeed as a soul you have existed in this place before. We are all of the star-kingdom, as their light is interwoven with the fabric of our being.
As you skip and play amidst the stars you sense a presence that is deeper than their dance of light. Such a presence is hidden from your view, right now, and will become revealed as this journey is taken and your own light-presence is recognized.
Finally, you take the time to rest with a sister or brother star, whose brightness and light holds a place for you, a seat for you, within their light. A starry thrown placed before you invites you to take your rest.
You see a sliver of light, a silvery light, cast in the sky before you. It is Mother Moon, the Goddess, who reveals her first light to you as a crescent in the cosmic darkness. You see and sense her beauty in this majestic form, and you bow to greet her and acknowledge the vastness of her power and presence.
You feel a call inside of you for completeness, for wholeness, spiritual union, and truth. This call is answered as her complete embodiment appears now and the full moon Goddess stands before you. She appears in her regalia of a silver-starred gown and moonbeams extending from her headdress of blue-white stars.
You feel her benevolence and kindness as she smiles and welcomes you, through her loving eyes. She has been with you always, from the time when your soul was newly born until now as you stand before her in the maturity of your present spiritual light. You notice that you are glowing, sparkling, and emanating a powerful presence of light, strength, and spiritual power. Perhaps you have not recognized the brightness and fullness of your light before; perhaps you have veiled this from yourself and others, throughout your life pathway, or simply haven't realized the truth of your beauty and light. You are that star that provided you with a place of rest, as you journeyed through the cosmos, and you have always been that star of light.
The moon Goddess and Mother comes towards you now and takes your hand. You soar with her through the fields of stars and galaxies—that are her cosmic garden. Then, resting together on a cosmic cloud, you sip from her chalice of light and love. You may rest in her arms, feeling the softness and safety of her love and spiritual mothering. She eases your concerns; she brings her loving presence into everything that may be disturbing you, in your life and experience, and in this you find great peace.
You may imagine her singing you songs of comfort and joy, or you may simply ask to receive her wisdom and encouragement for your life path. She is present with you always, and even as the dark Mother Moon, that you may perceive from the earth, you know her brightness and love is always there; it is always present in your heart, for you can never be apart from this great eternal Mother, who takes the form of the moon as one of her many aspects. And so it is.
When you are ready you can return from this inner journey and as you do so you allow yourself to continue to feel the peace that you have receive from your experience, as you have drank from the cup of celestial and spiritual light that the sun and the moon embody. Blessed Be.
